How the numbers are produced
Tonnage is computed from the standard asphalt formula: volume (length × width × compacted thickness) is multiplied by a hot mix density of 145 lb/ft³ and a default waste factor of 5%, then divided by 2,000 lb/short ton. Cost multiplies tonnage by the 2025 average per-ton price for the selected state. Coverage is the inverse — how many square feet one ton covers at a given thickness. Every result updates live as you change an input, and the first-paint values are baked into the HTML so search engines and no-JS users see real numbers.

Per-ton prices are maintained for all 50 states, with deeper regional detail for Florida, Texas, and California. State pages add climate-zone mix recommendations, common local pavement failures, and county-level thickness standards on top of the same calculator.
